Tips for your Maternity session

Here are some tips to prepare for your maternity session with me

  • Pick the right time. Schedule your session when you are 33-36 weeks pregnant. Your belly will have a lovely, full shape.
  • Please moisture at least an hour before your photo session
  • Hands and feet will be shown in the images, so please think about a simple manicure and pedicure.
  • Please remove tight-fitting clothing and accessories, like watches and bracelets, at least two hours before your session.  Wear loose fitting clothing to the session to avoid elastic/clothing marks.
  • You may want to include a few baby things like a cute pair of shoes or a cherished family heirloom in your photo or the ultrasound. Please feel free to bring these items with you.
  • Consider bringing the Dad and older children to the maternity shoot even if only for part of the session.

Clothing

I have a range of fabrics that you can use at your maternity session in the studio and my personal preference is for simple maternity clothing and love the way fabrics look.

If you are bringing clothes or would like to have two looks, one with fabric and one with clothing then please remember the following.

  • Solid colored shirts focus the attention on your tummy’s shape and glowing expression.
  • Avoid big floral prints, swirls, plaids and stripes. Large patterns distract.
  • Black clothing gives you a slim silhouette.  Form fitting clothes with little stretch will compliment your figure so avoid loose clothing.
  • Silk and cotton fabrics drape beautifully around a pregnant body.
  • Empire-waist blouses and dresses, button-up shirts, tank tops, long drawstring skirts and tie dresses can really enhance your blossoming shape.
  • Dark jeans and black tapering yoga pants make your legs look long and slim.
  • Please choose the right underwear to go with your look, you may need a strapless bra and g-strings in nude so there are no strap or underwear marks!
  • Accessories and jewellery can add some colour and visual interest to the image, but be selective!
